The Brandon is gone!

Brandon Sign
This was the pub sign at the front of the Brandon Hotel in Carlton, probably Melbourne's finest hostelery. It features the emblem of Britannia: Boadicea wearing bells, dancing Morris, waving hankies and drinking beer. Sadly the Brandon is no more.

The National Folk Festival is the peak annual folk event in Australia - and has become one of the main meeting places for Morris. There is a significant Morris component at the NFF (including the famous "Belly Off", where Morris Dancers and Belly Dancers compete in dance for almost no prizes whatsoever).

Britannia will be a featured side at the festival, and you will see an awful lot of us there - including dance displays on The Piazza and a Morris workshop.

Chaps at the 2004 NFF

Other teams featured at this year's National are:

  • Brandragon North West Morris from Melbourne
  • Tyler's Oz from Melbourne (and elsewhere)
  • The Perth Morris Men
  • Albion Fare from Sydney
  • Black Joak from Sydney
  • Brindabella Clog Morris from Canberra
  • Ripper Rapper from Canberra

You can see photos of our 2004 appearance at the NFF at http://www.britannia.org.au/history/log/2004/nff/.
