The Brandon is gone!

Brandon Sign
This was the pub sign at the front of the Brandon Hotel in Carlton, probably Melbourne's finest hostelery. It features the emblem of Britannia: Boadicea wearing bells, dancing Morris, waving hankies and drinking beer. Sadly the Brandon is no more.

Just as we have done for the last ten years or so, the Britannia Morris Men Will drag out the traditional Mummers play and parade it about the streets of Richmond.

This is all on Thursday night, 13th of December 2007.

It is hard to say exactly where and when you can catch it, but your best bet will probably be the Great Britain Hotel at about 8pm.

Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled.

But what is a mummer?

The mummers play is an old English tradition - a folk play that deeply examines the theme of death and resurrection - well, as deeply as can be done in 10 minutes worth of rhyming couplets!
